Thirukkovil is situated in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's Southeast coast. The location is a confluence of scenic beauty nestled between waves of adventure and ancient history. Thirukkovil in Tamil translate to Gods-temple and is home to one of the oldest Murugan temples on the island. The lagoons and waterways that dot the landscape provide for an abundance of wildlife.
The town is the gateway to Arugam Bay (which is one of the top surfing destinations in the world) and Yala East or now known as Kumana wild life sanctuary. Just to the North is Kalmunai, which was once home to the royal farm of the Kandyan Kingdom and now one of the most vibrant communities in the Eastern Province.
